Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a member and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. She is well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
